Replacement Filters for the Mitsubishi MSZ-FX & MSZ-FW Series: A Complete Guide

If you own a Mitsubishi mini split from the MSZ-FX or MSZ-FW series and you're trying to figure out which replacement filter actually fits your unit, you're not alone — and it's not you. This model line has a real, well-documented part number problem on Mitsubishi's side, and it's caused a lot of confusion for owners trying to order the right filter. This guide covers every filter your indoor unit uses, which ones are currently available, and what to do about the ones that aren't.

Why the part number in your manual might be wrong

Mitsubishi's printed owner's manuals are written to cover an entire model series, not your specific indoor unit. For the MSZ-FX and MSZ-FW series, that's created a real issue: several of the part numbers printed in these manuals don't correspond to a filter that actually fits the unit. We've seen this trip up customers repeatedly, including orders placed using the exact part number listed in the manual that received, for a filter too narrow or a different size entirely once it arrived.

We're publishing what we currently know to be accurate so you can order with confidence — or understand why a filter isn't available yet, rather than guessing.

If you're ever unsure exactly which unit you have, the model number on the manual usually covers a range of capacities, but your unit's nameplate will have the exact model. It's typically on the right-hand side of the unit or on the bottom edge facing the floor.

The four filters used in your indoor unit

Depending on how your system was configured, your MSZ-FX or MSZ-FW indoor unit uses up to four distinct filter types. Here's what each one is, what it does, and where things currently stand on availability.

1. Anti-virus filter (large, white)

This is the primary filter — the largest of the set, mounted across the full intake. It's currently in stock and available for order:

2. Deodorizing filter (smaller, black)

This optional filter targets odors rather than particulates. It's also currently in stock:

3. Anti-allergy / enzyme filter (smaller, blue)

The part number printed in most MSZ-FX/FW manuals for this filter — MAC-2310FT-E — is not correct for this series and is not available. The good news: the filter media itself is identical to one we do carry, MAC-2330FT-E. The only difference is the plastic holder it ships in.

4. Microparticle filter (smaller, white)

The part number referenced in most MSZ-FX/FW manuals for this filter — MAC-EMF515FT-E — is not the correct part number for this series, and the filter sized specifically for your unit is not currently available in the North American market. We don't have an ETA for when that will change.

MAC-EMF515FT-E itself is a real filter we carry, and it will physically fit in an MSZ-FX/FW unit — but it's roughly a half-inch smaller than the filter that actually belongs in this series. Because of that size difference, we can't officially recommend it as a substitute: it won't perform as well as the correct filter would.
