Austin Air HealthMate Air Purifier | Medical Grade HEPA + Carbon
Product Details
The Austin Air HealthMate is the standard by which other air purifiers are measured. Built in Buffalo, NY since 1990, it has been deployed by the U.S. Government, FEMA, and the American Red Cross during some of the country's most demanding environmental events — and it has been used in clinical trials at major research hospitals. For everyday residential use, it is simply the most thoroughly proven portable air purifier available.
The HealthMate is the right choice if your primary concerns are allergens, dust, pet dander, mold spores, bacteria, viruses, household odors, or chemical off-gassing from furniture, flooring, and cleaning products. Its 4-stage filtration system combines True Medical Grade HEPA with a large activated carbon and zeolite blend — handling both the particle and chemical sides of indoor air quality in a single unit.
The filter is designed to last 5 years under normal residential use. That is not a marketing claim — it is backed by a 5-year pro-rated filter warranty, the most comprehensive in the industry. The unit itself carries a 5-year mechanical warranty and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Clinically Proven Performance
The HealthMate has been used in independent clinical research at major U.S. hospitals and universities, including studies conducted in partnership with Cincinnati Children's Hospital and the American Academy of Pediatrics. Research has demonstrated measurable reductions in asthma-related emergency visits and lower indoor fine particle concentrations in homes using the HealthMate versus control units. A separate study from Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering found that rooms with an active HealthMate had air pollution levels approximately 90% lower than rooms without one — and that participants in cleaner rooms showed measurably lower blood pressure. Austin Air units have also been trusted by Johns Hopkins University, FEMA, the American Red Cross, the University of Washington, and Cincinnati Children's Hospital.
How to Use It
Place the HealthMate at least 4 inches from any wall with the air vent facing away from the wall. For best personal results, run it in the bedroom 24 hours a day. On first use, run on the high setting for one hour, then adjust to your preferred speed. Monthly, vacuum the exterior screen with a brush attachment to clear dust buildup. That is the only regular maintenance required. When the filter eventually needs replacement — typically after 5 years — a pro-rated discount applies through Austin Air Systems based on time in service.
Filter Replacement Indicator
The HealthMate does not include an electronic filter indicator. Austin Air has intentionally omitted this feature — timer-based lights don't reflect actual filter condition, and pressure-drop sensors can't detect carbon saturation (which typically occurs before the HEPA fills). Instead, two reliable signals tell you it's time: a noticeable odor coming from the unit (carbon is full), or significantly reduced airflow (HEPA is full). Under normal residential use, neither should occur for approximately 5 years.
